Washington’s Exploding Manholes Explained?

Yes, another entry because I cannot resist fart jokes.

There is so much gas being passed in our nation’s capital that it reaches explosive levels below the surface. According to Kim Krieger writing in ScienceNOW, methane concentrations found in some manholes were as high as 100,000 ppm (levels at 40,000 ppm or above are generally considered a risk for explosion), causing explosions that send manhole covers flying.

On a serious note: this is why infrastructure maintenance is important. If you don’t maintain your plumbing, your literal crap stays with you in ways you will not like.

On a ludicrous note — well, I leave the many possible political jokes to you.
