Light Bends by Itself – ScienceNOW It’s not actually the light beam bending — which the end of the article mentions.

Laser with zero-order Bessel beams do a similar trick, in that the beam is collimated for some distance, and then diverges dramatically at the end. Perfect application for making light sabers! (In reality, laser machinists like it because they don’t have to align target pieces so carefuly at the focal point of the laser.)
