Two for one: Saving Energy

In Science, technology on November 28, 2011 at 11:15 am

The icy winds of winter will soon blow. Are you ready?

Today’s two-fer goes from macroscopic national policy to things you and I can do to reduce energy usage (and save money) in our apartments and houses.

The wonks at Harvard Kennedy School of Government just released A road map to cleaner energy, suggesting government policy. Short quote from the news article: Researchers found that a dramatic increase in U.S. spending on energy research, development, and demonstration would repay itself many times over, and they recommended roughly doubling spending, to $10 billion annually… At the news conference, [Harvard Associate Professor of Public Policy Matthew] Bunn acknowledged that such an increase would be a tall order as the government struggles to reduce spending and cut federal deficits. Still, he argued that the payback would be enormous….

On a more personal note, the Department of Energy has information on what you can do to save energy at home. Short version: Weatherstrip and insulate.
