Going to the frogs to stop or grow blood vessels

In Science on June 15, 2011 at 6:13 pm

The waxy monkey frog is the source of a protein that inhibits blood vessel growth. Stopping tumors from growing blood vessels is one way that researchers have attempted to stop their growth.

The same group of researchers also found that a protein from the giant firebellied toad stimulates blood vessel growth. This could also have medical uses, for example, in helping patients recover from operations.
