Media versus science

In hilarious, Science, writing on April 6, 2011 at 6:58 pm

Randall Munroe illustrates a couple problems with the interface between the media (and the general population) and scientists — including a gruesome misunderstanding of statistics, causality, and proving a negative. (I’ve been a guest speaker, explaining to scientists why and how reporters without any background in their field will misunderstand their work, why they should talk to reporters anyway, and what they can do to minimize that risk. If I give that talk again, this will be my first slide.)
