Programmable Nanoprocessor

In technology on February 16, 2011 at 8:41 pm

Bye bye microprocessor, hello nanoprocessor! Well… sort of. The proof-of-concept demonstration used nanowires to perform very basic logic functions. But it isn’t smaller than conventional technology (yet). A more exciting aspect than size may be power consumption: the germanium nanowire mesh is much more energy efficient than silicon microprocessors.

What ultra-tiny nanocircuits can do from the Harvard Gazette.

The paper in Nature: Programmable nanowire circuits for nanoprocessors

And the comment in Nature: Criss-crossed nanowires can compute.
