Invisibility cloaks for earthquakes

Sure, being invisible to other people is fun, but imagine being invisible to forces of nature? Like, say, earthquakes?

It’s possible, say researchers at University of Liverpool, to build “invisibility cloaks” that would protect buildings from the surface waves that do much of the damage in earthquakes.

It’s quite a challenge, since waves have different frequencies and can come from different directions. But the payoff of saving buildings — and thereby, lives — could be great.
