Which activity keeps your brain more active: Reading a book or surfing the Web?
I guess web-surfing doesn’t rot the brain.
According to a study at UCLA, searching the web engages more parts of one’s brain than just reading — which may make it a better tool for staving off atrophy in aging brains. Scientific American tells you about it briefly, or you can read UCLA’s press release about the functional MRI research.
Now there’s an encouraging use of fMRI! If I had my way, the next study would watch people’s brains as they read web comics: I could swear that reading xkcd has made me smarter.
